Application Questions

  1. Commands 1 & 2 can also be viewed as two parts of the same command (then splitting the 10th into two). Whichever view one takes, they are connected. Review Pastor Sam’s message last week and state in one sentence what the 1st commandment in vv. 1-3 is all about.
  2. Why do we call Sunday mornings a worship gathering? What is worship? How would you define it?
  3. Read Exodus 20:1-6, and then Deuteronomy 4:15-20. The Deuteronomy passage is a part of the covenant renewal for a new generation while the Exodus passage is the original cutting of the covenant. What similarities are there? Differences? How does the Deuteronomy passage inform us further?
  4. Read Acts 17:16-34. What are the similarities and dissimilarities between Athens as Paul describes it and our culture today? How might faithfulness to this commandment help grow your Christian witness?
  5. What idols in your life are receiving worship? What action steps do you need to take?
  6. What place does the gift of joy ought to have in your life? How should it affect your actions and thoughts?
