- Mark’s Gospel as a Whole
- Respond to the Word
Discussion Questions
- What is textual criticism? Why does the discipline exist in the first place in regard to the Bible? Why is it important for believers to be aware of how we got the Bible?
- What is the difference between the inspiration and transmission of the text. Why is it important for this discussion? What has God promised?
- READ Mark 1:1-11 and 15:33-39, and then 16:1-8. How does this gospel start? How does it end? What might you say are some of the big purposes or main themes of Mark’s gospel?
- Last week, Nate G. encouraged us to “read and react.” How we react to Jesus is indeed a central focus in the gospel as seen in the three main groups of people in the gospel (the populace, the antagonistic Jewish leaders and Jesus’ disciples). Based on the themes/purposes you identified above, what are you supposed to do in response to the reality of this Jesus?
- In the sermon, Pastor Shaw suggested the following three ways to respond based on the angel’s words to the women at the tomb: follow, fear not and have faith. How is God inviting you to follow? What fears do you have in that? How do we develop faith to follow and not fear?
