1. John is mentioned by name three times in this chapter. What does he claim about who he is, where he is, and what he has seen and heard?

2. Revelation includes seven "beatitudes," which promise true wisdom and lasting happiness. Compare the blessings in Revelation 1:3 and 22:7. What do these verses tell us about how we should receive and respond to this book of prophecy?  

3. What do verses 4–6 tell us about the triune God and his blood-bought people?

4. When you think of Jesus, what image comes most readily to your mind? What does John hear and see in verses 10–16? How does he respond to Jesus's glory?

5. Jesus "is coming with the clouds" and is called "one like a son of man" in Revelation 1, which reminds us of a famous prophecy in Daniel 7:13–14. How does this Old Testament background help us understand the significance of John's vision of the risen King?
