Personal Reflection & Small Group Questions

Please complete this study on your own, then bring it to your small group for discussion.

1. How does the humility of Christ’s birth challenge the way you currently define "success" or "significance" in your own life? Where are you tempted to despise "small beginnings"?

2. When you feel insecure or afraid, where do you instinctively turn for comfort (food, entertainment, venting, isolation)? How do these "functional shepherds" fail you where Jesus succeeds?

3. Does your life reflect a sense of security and calm to those around you? If an unbeliever watched how you handled stress this past week, would they conclude that you are under the care of a Good Sovereign Shepherd?

4. Micah 5:3 refers to a time during which God would abandon the Jews because of their unbelief. Read Romans 11. What does it reveal about this time of abandonment, and when will it come to a close?

5. You cannot be a solitary sheep; sheep need a flock. Have you been isolating yourself from the church body recently? What is one step you can take to move from isolation into deeper fellowship with God’s people this week?
